Emily May Evans
Biography
My name is Emily May Evans and I identify as a female. I grew up in a very small town outside of Gatineau. During childhood, I was always surrounded by nature and grew up pretty sheltered from the outside world. It felt like all I knew was the community I was brought up around. I went to an elementary school in my hometown. Following this, I went to junior high and high school in the city of Gatineau.
In my last year of high school, my mother got the opportunity to work abroad in Egypt as an art teacher at a Canadian international school. I decided to join her and this was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I finally got to see the world.
I then decided I wanted to pursue my love of art and go to college in Montreal at John Abbott College, another great decision. There, I studied fine arts and developed my craft of art-making. I was at this college for two and a half years when I decided I wanted to go back to school for a Bachelor's in animation at Concordia University. I did this for a semester and realized this was not what I wanted to do.
I discovered that fine arts was my calling and went into art education at Concordia and got into the specialization program. Throughout this program, I got the opportunity to work in the community and school settings, and I realized my love for teaching and helping the community throughout this experience.
